2018 QLD Mining Awards

Hosted by the Bowen Basin Mining Club and the Queensland Resources Council, last night our team were present at the 2018 Queensland Mining Awards.

We were up against some strong competition this year in the Mclanahan Safety Award Category and we would like to congratulate Greyhound Australia for their win and innovation in Safer Transport Solutions.

Our nomination in this category was for our No Harm, Fatigue Technology Solutions. This solution was developed in collaboration with Caterpillar Inc.

Driver fatigue detection and in-cab monitoring to keep operators alert and alive.
Driver Safety System (DSS), is an in-cab detection system which uses artificial intelligence to pick up signs of fatigue and distraction in an operator. Our objective is to prevent fatigue before it sets in. To ensure this, an in-vehicle audio alarm is sounded combined with seat vibrations engaging the driver as soon as an event is detected.

The system is watching for controlled eye closures which are the first visible signs of fatigue. Unlike other eye tracking solutions, the DSS assesses a number of other biometric measures such as head rotation and tilt.
